Thankful Thursday: Getting Help

Thankful Thursday: Getting Help

I HATE HATE HATE HATE asking for help.  Did I stress HATE enough?  I want to feel capable of doing everything that is on my to do list.

Unfortunately, pregnancy has a tendency of kicking me in the butt and saying “haha you cant hack it, go warm the bench”

It’s one thing for me to ask my husband for help, but it’s a completely other thing to ask others for help.  I feel so self conscious and like I’m taking advantage of others.  My mother in law graciously offered her services when we were visiting last week and hubs basically begged me to take her up on it… I surrendered.  SOOO yesterday I called and asked if she would watch Junebug while I went to the OB today.  Junebug LOVES to go to the doctor with me, but I figured a doctor visit and maybe a couple errands while I was out without a toddler would be good for me, especially with the cramping I’ve been having if I get too feisty with what I’m doing during the day (like, heaven forbid, vacuum the living room :0 )

So I went to the OB and Target by myself…. and drove past a house that’s for sale that we were thinking of looking at (total dud, btw, acre and a half my behind) while my cutie pie played dress up and read “Inderlala” (Cinderella) with her Gramma B.  They were playing when I got home so I started on my cleaning list and my mother in law joined me and we virtually knocked out the whole list 🙂

Don’t tell her, but since I’m still working on those darn freezer meals, I got a bunch of dishes dirty again right away lol.  (On the bright side, after the two meals I made today are in the freezer 20 of 22 meals will be completed!)

Hubs will be happy that there’s not as much for him to jump in on when he gets home with dinner tonight (I’ve been craving Chinese! Yum!) and we might actually get to spend some time together once Junebug goes to bed 🙂

I’m going to have to do a lot more surrendering in the next 6 weeks.  Preparing for a baby AND a move* is going to make this pregnant momma break down… but hopefully we’ll make it through!

XOXO Megan, Junebug and Pumpkin ❤

*It’s not super public yet, but since only a few people read my blog, I figured it wouldn’t really matter much anyway.  Hubs was offered and accepted a promotion at work!  Yay for him and all of his AWESOME hard work!  He’s truly a rock star and although he wont admit it, he’s totally an asset to his company and I’m glad that they’ve recognized it.  This promotion gives us some stability and allows for us to purchase our first home and settle down as a family.  We’re currently living in our third home since getting married and Junebug has been with us for each one.  Moving with a newborn was rough, and moving with a toddler was also rough…. and now we get the one two punch of having BOTH a NEWBORN AND A TODDLER!!!!! YAY!  BUT, this should be our last move for A VERY LONG TIME!  (Hubby’s friends will be super excited cause our bedroom furniture is SUPER heavy haha!)

Thankful Thursday: Free Patterns

Thankful Thursday: Free Patterns

Lately, my pregnancy induced insomnia has been teaming up with my crafters obsession to create some late night sewing parties.  I mean ‘crawling into bed at 2am and still not being tired’ type of insomnia.  I’ve had a couple of those nights recently and have decided that I may as well make the most out of them and get going on sewing up a few new pieces for Junebug’s wardrobe.

Currently, I’m compulsively combing through the blogs of some awesome designers with some SUPER cute little girls and some SUPER cute sewing patterns and tutorials.  These designers have patterns for sale as well as FREE PATTERNS!

I have to admit, I LOVE free stuff. Love it. Free patterns make my heart all fluttery and ok, seriously, it may be a problem.  These ladies are enabling me.

BUT SERIOUSLY.  When your kiddo gets excited when there are new clothes for her to wear in the morning, and says “Oh my goodness” in her sweet little voice and twirls around in her little dresses….. you cant help but to want to keep getting different fabrics and patterns and sewing until the wee hours of the night.

Junebug and I did a photo shoot yesterday with her newest pieces.  She’s just so proud of them, and so am I!  I’ve never been a pattern follower (for knitting or for sewing)… things just magically somehow came together when I would wing it.  But these free patterns and tutorials have been a lifesaver.  There’s very little guesswork involved (unless it’s a self drafted pattern- which I haven’t attempted yet) and they turn out sooooooo perfectly because their instructions are AWESOME.

So this Thankful Thursday, I’m thankful for the ladies that have put in their time and effort to provide these tutorials and patterns for us crafty mommas who love to sew for their littles.

Check out these amazing ladies!

Here are some photos from our little photo shoot.  Obviously not professional level by any means of the imagination, but at least they were done one a REAL camera, not with my nonfunctional cell phone camera! (Seriously, I have to stop dropping my phone. I swear that’s the problem)

I do apologize for the fact that some photos are sideways, as they weren’t edited before I put them up due to trying to beat the nap clock.  I will try to do edits tonight after Junebug goes to bed.  By the way, the pink dress…. Yeah, it’s a JUNEBUG dress.  That’s literally the name of the dress.  How appropriate!?  She’s likely going to wear that dress to our family reunion this weekend, unless I have another insomnia/craft obsessed night before Saturday and whip up a cute little sundress out of this super cute hawaiian print pillow case my aunt found for me.  I think that’d be fun.  Great, now I’ve just given my evening away 😉

Thankful Thursday: Beautiful Weather and Toddler Wearing

Thankful Thursday: Beautiful Weather and Toddler Wearing

Today, I am thankful for the beautiful weather we have been having lately. This morning Junebug and I took Lux out on a walk and played outside after nap time. She is such an outdoorsy kiddo, so its such a blessing to have a warm, sunny day for her to play in. (Not that the rain slowed her down a bit on Tuesday!)

I’m also thankful for my woven wraps and other baby carriers! Without these helpful items, many things would go undone in our home. I can’t wait to have Pumpkin so I have a teeny baby to wear, its been so long!!! This was how we looked this morning on our walk 🙂

Wearing Junebug helps me to be more free during the day. Sometimes she just wants to be by me and snuggle and sit on my lap. With the amount of things I need to get done during the day, this sometimes isn’t possible, but she loves to “wrap a baby up” on my back and get things done with me 🙂 Wrapping also solves the rough nap days most of the time! I love being hands free to get things done throughout the day.  They have been well worth the investment! Hubby has been super supportive of babywearing from the get go and will wear Junebug if I help him get her wrapped up or into the Ergo. What a great guy!!!

The wrap in the photo is a Lenny Lamb Norwegian Diamonds. This is my one and only purpose made wrap and it is so comfy!

Thankful Thursday: This One Guy and Pickles

Thankful Thursday: This One Guy and Pickles

Those of you who are friends with me on Facebook may have seen my recent status update asking for friends to fess up about giving my toddler caffeine before bedtime tonight.  Junebug has been telling tales of Mary Poppins, Jesus, Boompa and pickles for about an hour now… Enthusiastically I might add.

Enter this one guy…. I call him my hubs.

He was out tonight with a buddy from work sighting in his new bow so he’s been gone for the entirety of bedtime.  But he is totally my knight in shining armor… Not only did he bring me home a GALLON of pickles (HELLO cliche pregnancy craving) but he also is taking a turn trying to tame the storytelling beast that is our daughter.  God bless him.

Thank you hubs!!!!!!!!!!

And yes, I’m thankful for pickles today.

Mainly the juice, because I’ve recently learned that pickle juice helps tame acid reflux and heartburn.  Apparently the vinegar in the juice neutralizes the acid.  Totally awesome.  I love finding natural remedies for ailments, especially during pregnancy.  I hate the idea of putting anything “unnatural” into my body while I’m growing another human being.  It just really doesn’t sit right for me.  A friend and a cousin both clued me in on the pickle juice trick (cause I couldn’t stop eating venison hot sticks with jalapenos in them).  I was skeptical, but willing to try it… and boy was it worth it.  It does come with a side effect for me, which is an uncontrollable craving for pickles, which is probably why Junebug was chatting about them instead of going to bed. I may or may not have finished a jar of Milwaukee pickles today that I bought on Tuesday.  (Hence the gallon of pickles hubs brought home lol)

Since learning about this, it has not only helped me with heartburn, but TWO of my pregnant cousins also let me know that it really helped, too!  Pickle companies are going to put heartburn medications out of business at this rate 😉

Thankful Thursday: A Healthy Pumpkin

Thankful Thursday: A Healthy Pumpkin

Today, I’m thankful for a good report after our ultrasound.  I always get nervous when I know I’ve got an ultrasound coming up.  For some reason I’m just nervous that it’s all too good to be true, and that there will be something “wrong” with baby. I guess I’m just nervous that I’ll have to mentally, emotionally and physically prepare to take care of a child that is differently-abled, and I doubt my parenting abilities so much in the days leading up to an ultrasound.  Thankfully, the ob performing the ultrasound said that everything looked like it was developing fine.  We heard the heartbeat for the first time this pregnancy and I just felt washed with a wave of relief and gratitude for a healthy baby.

Pumpkin is not NEARLY as active as Junebug was in the womb.  Holy cats was that child hard to look at on screen cause she just kept wiggling around everywhere.  Pumpkin was relatively still, with the occasional turn and adjusting his or her arms up near the face.  I’m praying that this means we may have an infant that likes to snuggle!  What a difference that will be!  Our family will be so excited to finally be able to hold a baby without them getting uncomfortable and wanting to face out.  Junebug rarely wanted to snuggle… and if she did it was with me because she was being nursed 😛  Only time will tell though what Pumpkin’s personality will be.  I cant wait until October to meet him or her!

Thankful Thursday: My Hubs

Thankful Thursday: My Hubs

This Thankful Thursday, I’m thankful for my husband, Joseph.  Not that I’m not thankful for him daily, but a specific series of events has really made me super thankful today.

You see, last night, I had a completely random, out of the blue, unexpected bout of “middle of the night sickness”.  What the heck, second trimester?  You’ve promised me I wouldn’t be as… sicky.  You lied.  Pregnancy is strange.  I came back to bed and Joseph went and got me a glass of water and my Seabands (which were a TOTAL lifesaver during first trimester “evening sickness”).  Then this morning, since he had a work meeting and didn’t have to leave as early as usual, he woke up with Junebug and let me get an extra half hour of sleep.

He is a rock star.

Thanks Love!

Thankful Thursday: Computer Cords and Butterfly Wings

Thankful Thursday: Computer Cords and Butterfly Wings

Hi friends!

Today is Thankful Thursday, one of my favorite post days!  I love the opportunity to share the positives in my life with others!

Today, I’m thankful for computer cords and butterfly wings.  It sounds silly, but I’ll tell you why.

Yesterday, while playing, Junebug bumped into the computer cord that was plugged into Hubby’s computer.  It died immediately.  Since moving, we have only been able to locate one cord for our laptops.  This cord was more or less the life source behind our Netflix watching abilities (we don’t have our tv set up, so this is the only way we watch shows unless we have the seasons on DVD) and *gasp* to Tiny Little Graces!  I’m sure I could post from my phone, but I don’t use my phone camera to take photos for the blog because the quality is much lower than our normal camera, and far lower than that of my nice camera.  Therefore, I wouldn’t be able to share photos with you until another cord surfaced or we broke down and used Hubby’s work laptop to order a new cord.  Thank God, Hubby was able to locate another cord last night!  Netflix and blog saved!  Way to go Hubs!

Now, for the butterfly wings.  As much as I love butterflies, I’m not talking about the real shebang here.  Butterfly wings are what I call our baby’s movements in the first few weeks that I can feel baby occupying my belly.  I’ve been feeling Pumpkin wiggling around a bit here and there, and for that, I am eternally grateful.  It’s truly reassuring to feel those tiny movements inside of me and be reminded of the life I have within me.  I’ve had several friends in the past couple weeks lose their precious babies and my wonderful sister and brother in law narrowly missed an adoption opportunity, so my mind hasn’t been in a very positive place and I’ve been a little worried about Pumpkin.

This week is Infertility Awareness week, and in light of these beautiful people and their losses, I find myself feeling slightly guilty for a healthy pregnancy, but overall, extremely grateful that Hubby and I have not had to experience this sadness first hand.

The past few days for me have been filled with heartbreak for my wonderful friends and family.  You are all in my thoughts and prayers, especially this week.  May God heal your hearts and bless you with a child in His time.

xoxo Megan
